Specialist Christopher D. Horton died in Paktia, Afghanistan on September 9, 2011, during a complex ambush. Specialist Horton was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 279 Infantry Regiment, 45th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, as a sniper.
His wife made a comment to me that she didn't know how to keep Chris's legacy alive since they never had kids to carry on his name. This bothered me for years, until in 2019 we put together the first sniper match in his honor. His wife flies in from DC to officiate the event and it's a great time to remember Chris, cross-load information between sniper teams and continue to keep our skills sharp.

Spectators! Here's a quick rundown of what to expect during the Chris D Horton Legacy Sniper Comp 2024! You can expect to be right up in the mix...almost within arms reach of these guys while they stalk through the woods, shoot under pressure and endure grueling obstacles and tasks in order to beat out all the other teams for #1!

October 25- Teams come in from all over the country and will settle in at Rev-Tac as they trickle in throughout the day. (1545 Knox Blvd, Jackson Ne). Once they get settled in, they will need to ensure that their equipment survived the trip without messing up their zeroes or worse...so they will get on the range to confirm everything is still good. They typically have to be completely off the range by 6pm as we should have dinner ready by then! Come have dinner with the guys! It's a free will donation for dinner so you are welcome to come eat, drink meet all these guys and hang out for the evening around the fire listening to stories and music!

October 26th- Teams will get up and eat breakfast before the sun comes up at Rev-Tac...but you don't need to come watch them brush their teeth. The big events will kick off at 8am and will start at VERZANI FARMS (59326 878 Rd, Ponca Ne). There is event parking that you will need to park in, then check in at event HQ located in the main big building that you can't miss. You can catch a ride in humvees, vans or side by sides to specific stages of the event that might catch your interest! Watch a few or watch them all...shuttles will run you from stage to stage! It's super cool! Competitors will have to "ruck" also known with running with all their gear roughly a 12 mile loop that catches all the stages throughout the day...so you may not see everyone compete at every stage, but you can see teams battle to be the best at every stage you want to watch! Some hightlights that you won't want to miss will be the HIGH ANGLE, STALK LANE and TARGET DETECTION in the AM and then SKY BRIDGE, VEHICLE BASED OPERATIONS, CALL YOUR SHOT in the PM. We try to wrap up the day's stages by 5-6pm at the latest and will have dinner again provided saturday night! We've got music and a huge bonfire planned at Verzani Farms that evening if you want to stick around! Normally there will be some type of evening event or speaker that you may not want to miss! Make sure to talk with any vendors who are in the area about their products...you never know what might improve your shooting!

October 27th- We kick back off at Verzani Farms (address above) around 8am! Teams will "stay close" engaging in the last 4 stages shooting moving targets from weird places, engaging extreme long range targets out to a mile, and showing off their ability to make first round hits under extreme pressure! You will see them "save lives" while they engage threats...all things snipers have to be experts at. Around noon, things will wind down and the Award Ceremony kicks off! We try not to keep these guys very long after the comp is over so the entire event should be wrapped up by 3pm!

It's not too late to donate to our non-profit Contact-Front.Org. The proceeds go to helping struggling combat vets find their purpose after the uniform and keep this event going to honor Chris's sacrifice for our nation. We have to keep his legacy alive!
