The Art and Science of Reloading for Long Range Precision
Part 1: (approximately 4 hours) 8am-Noon
Rifle Reloading Basics:
This course is designed for shooters with no experience with reloading. Discussion will revolve around intended use, data collection, risk management, and equipment options including a detailed discussion on what is necessary vs just nice to have in a reloading bench. It will include a hands on demonstration of case preparation, die setup, and basic rifle cartridge assembly with long range precision in mind. This will prepare club members to use Rev Tac reloading equipment at our new reloading station.
Part 2: (approximately 4 hours) 1pm-5pm
Load Development for Long Range Precision
This course focuses on developing a rational plan to work up a load with long range precision in mind. It should benefit shooters that have taken part 1 or already have experience reloading rifle cartridges. This can be an intimidating iterative process and we do not have all the answers but we will try to simplify an approach based on validated principles.
Discuss internal ballistic factors that impact long range success.
Demonstrate the calibration and use of software to predict what chamber/powder/bullet combinations are worth trying and why.
Explore the concept of dispersion including factors that contribute to it.
Discuss some popular you tube load workup schemes based on barrel harmonics that might suffer from low sample size.
Discuss reasonable expectations and outcome measures that are useful as well as some to avoid.
